Creating inclusive services: Lessons from Plano Public Library's Adapted Library Programming
Learn from Plano Public Library's experience developing opportunities to engage their local disability and neurodivergent community through accessible programming, collections, and volunteer work.
Through strong connections with local partners, Plano Public Library has developed opportunities to engage their local disability and neurodivergent community through accessible programming, collections, and volunteer work. Find inspiration and learn from PPL’s experiences of going beyond sensory storytimes to:
- add adapted art, science, and job skill programs for all ages both in the library and through outreach
- create sensory backpacks on social-emotional development
- work with a consultant to create an adapted book collection
- expand volunteer opportunities to offer meaningful work experience for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
