Nimble is the Name of the Innovation Game
Thanks to all the participants who made this Next Library session, Nimble is the Name of the Innovation Game, such a success! Here is an overview of the time we spent together, the resources used in the facilitation and pictures of the group summaries.
While libraries explore exciting new frontiers to promote 21st century skills and lifelong learning for their patrons, they are faced with the challenge of keeping one step ahead. In a climate where libraries must stay nimble and open to pursue new models of service, they are only as nimble as their staff. Increasingly, formal training programs, especially face-to-face offerings, are becoming a luxury, and individuals are increasingly accountable for their own rapid, self-directed, on-the-job learning. The opportunities to engage in learning that use new technology and online collaboration tools represent a powerful shift for the learner. This is true for both the patrons and the staff in libraries around the world and finding flexible, cost-effective training models is critical to meeting accelerated and evolving learning needs.
In this highly interactive session, participants co-created learning models to help library staff find a path to relevant, rapid, on-demand learning to enhance the patron and community experience in the library. Participants worked together to determine solutions to realistic problems and scenarios related to accelerating learning – they also faced unexpected twists and turns, with surprise rewards for their group and individual efforts.
