Bring early math learning into your library with Libraries Count

Create meaningful, playful early math experiences for young children and their families with Libraries Count, a new course available in WebJunction’s course catalog. Libraries Count is designed to empower library staff to infuse early math content into library settings, especially working with young children and their families from diverse backgrounds. This course covers the what, why, and how of early math, including numbers, geometry, measurement, operations, and patterns.
The content includes integrating diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice in your efforts to support early math programming for young children and their families. Learners work through videos and readings and engage in discussion forums where they share ideas on how to apply what they've learned. The course also provides practical handouts for storytime activities and posters to use in their library.

And on December 3, join the “Libraries Count: Expanding access to early math learning through public libraries” webinar, where Dr. Alissa Lange and Dr. Bharat Mehra will introduce the Libraries Count project and explore the important role public libraries can play in expanding access to high-quality early math learning. They will share the ideas that shaped Libraries Count, lessons learned through collaboration with library professionals, and practical examples of what early math can look like in library spaces.
If you’re reading this after December 3, 2026, you can use that same link to find the webinar recording in the free WebJunction course catalog.
Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of early math as an accessible, playful part of everyday library experiences and ideas for supporting children, families, and communities through their own library programs and spaces.
