"Building capacity and creating a network of people and materials to support rural and small libraries and the communities they serve, has been the hallmark of the Association for Rural & Small Libraries.” That is how Kathy Zappitello describes ARSL and the impact it has had on the vocational community. “The missing puzzle piece was an educational leadership program designed around the unique framework and challenges in small and rural communities.” The Institute of Museum and Library Services agreed and ARSL launched its very own Leadership Institute in 2021. Building on that success, IMLS has been awarded additional funding and with that ARSL leading will be leading the second round of the Institute beginning in 2024.

Leadership skills are vital to those who work in small community libraries. Thirty applicants will be selected to participate in an 18-month immersive program taught by lead instructor, Kathy Zappitello that will feature other library leaders from across the country that will not only create a framework of success but will grow new leaders into future vocational mentors.

The application window is now closed and we'll share updates in the coming months. General questions may be sent to [email protected].
