We continue our Social Library series, highlighting innovative ways libraries are using Facebook to connect with communities. This edition features a library wedding, an employee of the month, a garden pergola, marvelous moving bookshelves, and a fun growth chart. If you'd like to see your library featured in an upcoming edition, please let us know via [email protected] or find us on Facebook.

  • Reading Public Library in Pennsylvania marked the launch of Library Card Sign-up Month with a wedding! We've seen a handful of weddings hosted in libraries, but this is the first one with such intentional promotion of the library. "Kickin' off Library Card Sign-up Month today, we "carded" the first couple to be married at Main Library." And library love is certainly in the air, as A. C. Hunter Public Library in Canada posted that a couple came to their library to get their wedding photos taken. Congratulations and thank you to all the newlyweds!
  • East Chicago Public Library in Indiana shared a wonderful post about one of their team members. Social media provides an easy and wonderful way to highlight your library staff. "Congratulations to our September Employee of the Month, Tiffany Berry! She is our Reference Department Assistant at the Main library. The award recognizes Tiffany for making a positive contribution to the success of the East Chicago Public Library! Thank you for all that you do to help others! Great job Tiffany and keep up the good work!"

  • Bourbonnais Public Library in Illinois posted this wonderful photo of the new library pergola built by a local Eagle Scout. The library acknowledged all of the local businesses that helped to support the project. "We would like to thank Scout Logan Conroy for his hard work and dedication in completing his Eagle Scout Project at the Bourbonnais Public Library. Logan, Bourbonnais Boy Scout Troop 324, family members, and close friends worked very hard to beautifully landscape the entrance of the library and install the pergola beside the Community Garden. Thanks to the many businesses and individuals that also contributed to this project: Crockett Construction, Warburton Construction, Snider’s Nursery, Kankakee Nursery, The Home Depot (Frankfort), The Bradley Lion’s Club, Tholen’s Garden Center, Sunrise Greenhouse, Farm and Fleet, Meijer, Target, Big Lots, Harbor Freight, Kroger, and Great Grandmother Dorothy Boudreau."
