You know how important storytimes are for children’s early literacy. WebJunction can help you take storytimes to the next level in two different ways. New Supercharged Storytimes Course
First, coming in October, WebJunction is launching its expanded and updated self-paced Supercharged Storytimes course. Supercharged Storytimes is a research-based program that helps storytime providers enhance children’s early literacy development through intentional emphasis on key early literacy concepts that promote learning. The program’s core curriculum organized in six modules has been expanded to cover:
- Strategies for emphasizing six early literacy components (oral language, phonological awareness, print awareness, letter knowledge, vocabulary, and background knowledge)
- Ways to engage parents and caregivers in their children’s early literacy
- Approaches to storytime assessment including using Project Outcome
- Supercharging storytimes through an equity lens
- Growing intentionality and building peer community
Librarians new to storytimes and seasoned providers will gain valuable skills from this Supercharged Storytimes course. The foundation of interactivity and intentionality and the tools introduced throughout these sessions add significant value for any practitioner.
This self-paced, on-demand course is free to all library practitioners. It will be available online in October 2018, and will be accessible anytime, anywhere that’s convenient for you.
Supercharged Storytimes Facilitator Training
Secondly, you can help your storytime provider peers take it to the next level by becoming a Supercharged Storytimes facilitator. Learn how to lead a group of your staff, peers, or volunteers through the self-paced course. The Supercharged Storytimes Facilitator Training, a four-week, live, online course in November, will prepare up to 100 library staff for this role. It is great for training coordinators, librarians looking to become leaders in their libraries, or storytime providers excited about working with others to learn the Supercharged philosophy.
Many people find learning in groups to be valuable for staying motivated, building community, being held accountable, and gaining new perspectives. Learning in a group is most effective when someone assumes leadership for guiding the group through the structure and pace of the course material. A smart facilitator helps group members connect with the course content and with each other to enhance individual learning. Participants in the Supercharged Storytimes Facilitator Training will learn these skills. Learn more and apply for this opportunity – applications close October 19.
