Opening Doors and Minds with a "Yes!"
"Yes!" That’s what Kathy Zappitello, Executive Director of the Conneaut Public Library wants her staff to be able to say to patrons, to colleagues, and to new opportunities. The library, which serves a community of 12,841 residents in northeast Ohio, recently closed to for a day for staff training. As part of the training, Zappitello shared with staff that she was interested in helping everyone go beyond the "nuts and bolts of their jobs" to achieve a greater understanding of the community. She outlines a few of her reasons for encouraging all of us to say, "yes!"
Social Library, Winter Reading Edition
With numerous libraries posting to Facebook about Winter Reading Challenges, we wanted to highlight a few in this special edition of the Social Library series. Public Libraries and the 2020 Census
Federal funding for public libraries will be determined by the 2020 U.S. Census results, with ALA reporting that "more than $1 billion in federal funding for libraries will be allocated to states based on the 2020 Census." In addition to federal funding, the decennial Census data will inform congressional representation, resources allocated for community services, emergency disaster response strategies, and more.
