Monique, there are plenty of seed libraries in Ohio that distribute saved seeds - they don't have to be commercially packaged. For seed laws, check out: Ohio Revised Code sections 907.01 and 907.09 that deal with seed libraries. The Association of American Seed Control Officials also has a Recommended Uniform State Seed Law for non-commercial seed sharing. Laws regarding invasive plant species can be found in Ohio Administrative Code section 901:5-30-01.

I host a continuous program called Roots to Readers where we do different hands on planting activities once a month, often inviting local experts from the community to talk. Last month we used seeds from the seed library to plant okra, and we will do another program around harvesting okra seeds in october.

I have a sign out sheet that I encourage people to leave their name and what seeds they take. It gives a rough idea of usage.

we just count how many seeds are left at the end of the month and subtract from the starting total. we partner with Texas A &M Agrilife extension, so they like to have the totals

stats: I record what has been donated and have a check out sheet which asks for how many seeds, what seed and the date they were "checked" out
