LearningExpress Library - What do you think about it?
10:29 AM EDT 8/23/10
Does anybody offer Learning Express Library? It is a comparable product to our Testing and Education Ref Center. Usage of TERC has been low so wee are considering a similar product in a different format thay may work better with our customers. This product is set up with tutorials and online exams.

It includes SAT, PSAT, GRE, MCAT, GMAT, ASVAB, Writing skills, Elementary+Middle+High School skills, GED, Citizenship, NCLEX, PRAXIS I and II and more. The job tutorials are great for help with resume/cover letter/business writing. We are not considering the computer skills module, as we have lynda.com for that.

Any opinions on this product?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Joan,

I'm glad you brought your question to the forum. I want to connect you with another thread that has some information about using Learning Express:

It looks like libraries in Missouri, Ohio, and Utah are using it.

Hi, Joan,
The South Dakota State Library offers Learning Express Library to all citizens of the state. We have gotten great feedback on it from school staff, especially counselors and Family & Consumer Science teachers, and from public librarians eager to help their patrons. We like the variety of tests, courses, and ebooks; the instant results that give explanations telling why the right answer is the right answer, and the general ease of use. The vendor has added quite a few career certification practice tests in the last 2 years. Especially popular are the CDL (commercial drivers' license) and Nursing & Allied Health. Schools like the Skills Improvement tests and the ACT prep. The Job Seeking tab offers courses in business writing, but the highlight of this center is the Resume & Cover Letter module. A person can take these courses and end up with a usable, downloadable resume or cover letter that's ready to send!

Hi Joan
We offered Learning Express Library for a couple of years. I loved it and thought it was a great resource as did those I know who used it, but in the end, the usage stats did not justify the cost, so I had to drop it. (We are a small library.) We might try again when my budget allows. I like the idea that all of South Dakota has access to it. Maybe our Colorado Consortium could look into this one like your state did.
