The Wi-Fi Alliance originally planned to hold off certification of 802.11n products until the IEEE finished ratifying their standards for the wireless technology. But they can wait no longer.
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is taking longer than planned to produce Draft 2.0, the fully ratified standard covering 802.11n, the successor to today's Wi-Fi products. The Wi-Fi Alliance said on Tuesday that it will move forward and offer a preliminary certification for 802.11n products based on interoperability of the products that are currently on the market.
