The Auld Public Library is committed to serving the information and lifelong learning needs of all its patrons. Computing resources greatly expand the availability of information beyond the traditional collections. The library

provides computers to its patrons for internet browsing, word processing,

and other productive activities.

The internet is an unregulated global information resource. The Auld Public

Library cannot guarantee the accuracy and/or authenticity of information

discovered through this resource.

The Auld Public Library complies with the United States Copyright Law,

and all other federal, state, and local laws relating to the use of the internet

and other electronic media.

There are certain policies and guidelines related to the use of our computers

and wireless access.

Rules and

~

~ Patrons must sign in, using both first & last name.

~ Computer sessions are limited to 30 minutes per day. Patrons may request

an extension if no one else is waiting.

~ Audio users must bring their own headphones.

~ No more than 1 person may use a computer at a time, except for adults with

children who may need their assistance.

~ Patrons are expected to be knowledgeable in basic computer operations.

Library staff do not offer individualized instruction.

~ Only parents and legal guardians have the right --and responsibility-- to

monitor and control their own minor children's access to the internet and

to information obtained from the internet.

~ Patrons entering personal information (credit card numbers, social security

numbers, etc.) do so at their own risk.

~ Inappropriate use of the internet (pornography, gambling, etc.) in a public

and open environment is prohibited and will result in the suspension or

revocation of internet use privileges.

~ Activities which disrupt the library, violate copyright or software license

agreements, or damage equipment are prohibited.

~ The Auld Public Library is not responsible for work or information lost

due to computer or system malfunction.

~ Downloading is permitted, but patrons must bring their own disk or thumb

drive.

~ Printing costs are 10 cents per black & white page, 50 cents per color page.

Wireless Access and Use

 

Unfiltered wireless internet access is available to all patrons. Any patron who

complies with the library's internet policy may use the wireless access service.

~You don't need a plug or phone jack, just turn on your laptop.

~ If you are using the library's laptop, you will need to register at the

circulation desk and logon as "patron".

~ The library's wireless network is unfiltered and does not provide

a secure connection. Information sent to and from your laptop may be

captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate

software.

~ Patrons use the library's wireless internet access at their own risk.

~ The library encourages patrons to use virus protection, a personal firewall,

and other measures on their laptop to protect personal information from

disclosure.

~ The library's wireless internet access does not include the ability to print

documents on library printers.

~ Library staff is not able to provide technical assistance and no guarantee

can be made that you will be able to make a wireless connection.

~ The Auld Public Library is not responsible for any loss of information or

damage that may occur, either directly or indirectly, to any personal

equipment or data, or for any damage or injury that arises from use of

the library's wireless internet access service.

~ The Auld Public Library reserves the right to terminate any wireless

network connection in accordance with federal, state, and local laws,

regulations and policies.
