So you just have purchased a resource sharing product or service ...

  • What do you do next?
  • What should you be thinking about?
  • What materials were provided by your sales person?
  • What training resources are available either through courses or online?
  • Where do I find documentation?

One of the first things you should consider or review, is how your library and/or institution is viewed by other Resource Sharing libraries.

OCLC provides two similar, but unique resources for describing your institution and your library.

ILL Policies Directory

The ILL Policies Directory is a Web-based source of lending and copying policies of libraries participating in WorldCat Resource Sharing (i.e. you will need an ILL authorization to access it)

This document provides you with a brief overview of the OCLC Policies Directory as well as a list of information you should bring to your workstation when preparing to enter your policies, contacts, and institution information into the Policies Directory.

The next thing you can do is to access of some of the "Getting Started" or "Quick Reference" guides we have gathered together under the "Documents" tab.

If you don't know where to start, you might want to start a Discussion to ask about your unique situation or to describe what you are looking for.

WorldCat Registry

The WorldCat Registry is a Web-based directory for libraries and library consortia. It is an authoritative single source for information that defines institutional identity, services, relationships, contacts and other key data often shared with third parties. With it, you can:

  • Create and manage a profile that centralizes and automates information sharing with vendors and others—you don't maintain multiple identities, and their data is always up-to-date
  • Get greater Internet visibility for your collection and services through syndication of your data over a variety of Web services including WorldCat.org
