I'm a member of the Web Content Team of the Johnson County Library. We're responsible for the look, feel and content of the Library's online presence. I oversee the children's and teens' sites, as well as contributing to various aspects of our main site. I also work on the reference desk and work with Youth and Teen Services on services, programming and promotions.
I'm a big believer in Do-It-Yourself in libraries. I think open source software and web applications are the future. Unconferences and other grassroots alternatives to standard conferences are also of growing importance and value. I love new gadgets, but think it's crucial to get the cost and availability down, to help bridge the digital divide.
Most importantly, I think libraries are sexy and fun, and we should all enjoy what we do. It's as important to play as it is to work, and all library employees should have time to play and experiment with new things. Affiliations:
