About Me: Kathleen de la Peña McCook is Distinguished University Professor at the University of South Florida. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Valdosta State University, GA. working with the IMLS project: Librarians Build Community" (2009-2012). Kathleen has been President of the Association for Library and Information Science Education and editor of RQ. She was honored with the 2002 Latino Librarian of the Year (Trejo Award). She received the Beta Phi Mu Award for distinguished service to education for librarianship in 2003 and is author of Introduction to Public Librarianship (2011); A Place at the Table: Participating in Community Building ( 2000); and Ethnic Diversity in Library and Information Science (2000). She serves on the editorial board of the journal, Progressive Librarian. She writes the blogs "Librarian" and "Librarians and Human Rights." In 2010 Kathleen was the ALA Coleman Lecturer on the topic of "Librarians and Human Rights." She is active in her Union, the United Faculty of Florida.
