Online Collections

Hi everyone,

I have just finished a redo of our library's website, and quite a few patrons were asking when our collection would be available online. There is only one problem. I am more on the graphic design than the programming side of web development and I'm not sure where to begin.
We use Winnabago Spectrum in the library and are able to export with no problem. Am I looking at a PHP MySQL solution or is there an easier way? (Easier for me anyway).
I would really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Ryan, good question. I wish I were savvy enough to spin out an answer, but I'm more of a designer type also. I hope some of our knowledgeable members chime in here.

In the meantime, I reread the LJ article about the remarkable Phoenix Library website, in which it states that:

"A major challenge was getting the integrated library system ... to do everything the team wanted it to do. The ILS offered no easy method to access information ..."

They came up with home grown and customized solutions, so it might be worthwhile to try to contact the web development team there.

Ryan:

We also have Sagebrush Corp. Winnebago Spectrum and put our collection online (www.alamosalibrary.org), but we bought their WebCat program for their proverbial price of $995 to get it on our website. It is an easy configuration and doesn't take much time, although you do need to do it after hours.
