I See Blog People

ALA president-elect, as many of you may already know, just slammed "blog people" in a recent editorial in LJ. It happened to be the same issue that ran an article about online communities. Rubbish! He says that folks who wish to publish their ideas should go through the standard publishing fan-fare (usually attached to commerce, yes??).
Our discussion space is not a blog - really - but it's a collective auto-publishing space. As someone else pointed out in the gaming topic, it's a bit of a community blog (and you can RSS it - when it's working).
I think we should be as outraged by this as the "blog people" and I intend to get myself one of those clever buttons to wear around to every conference I attend. What do you guys thinK?
