social networking newsletters - ways to keep informed
7:35 PM EDT 10/11/07
Hello

I am interested in reading more about various social networking trends. I do subscribe to the MASHABLE newsletter, but wondered if there are other vehicles that discuss similar content.

I read ...

Robin Good's blog: http://www.masternewmedia.org/social_networking.htm
which also has a subscription feature.

OCR from Forum One Communications:
http://www.onlinecommunityreport.com/
(which is more about online community building - not just the tools)

downloadSquad has a great social software channel:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/category/social-software/

many2many is about social interactions (including tools):
http://many.corante.com/

and a few of my favorite local blogs (PacificNW- rock, rock on):
http://www.commoncraft.com/
http://www.fullcirc.com/weblog/onfacblog.htm
http://www.socialsignal.com/

but honestly, the way that I *first* hear about a new social software application is through my community on twitter.

great question - i look forward to seeing what other folks are reading as well...

This new book may well fit here: http://www.utexas.edu/utpress/books/adaele.html

The title is "Electronic Tribes.
The Virtual Worlds of Geeks, Gamers, Shamans, and Scammers" (U. of Texas, 2008)

(Note the date ... June, 2008 ... so don't get your credit cards out yet. ;-) )

An excerpt, available at that link, is by Jim Parker, an online acquaintance. Knowing him and a few other writers and researchers is how I generally keep up with social software.
