Looking for "Library" friends on Facebook
2:14 PM EDT 8/24/07
I finally joined the band wagon and signed up for Facebook. I am very impressed with this and can see so much potential for marketing the libraries I work with. However, I NEED SOME FRIENDS!! So, Facebook users, if you are so inclined, please search for the name Stephanie Zimmerman and add me as your friend. I'm the one in Lancaster, PA and my picture shows me in a blue button down shirt with shoulder length hair. I haven't figured out another way yet to have people find me on Facebook. With MySpace I could just give them my link. But I never really got into MySpace like I am with Facebook. Thanks future friends!

PS - do any of you recommend any Library type groups I should join?

Hi Stephanie,

How about joining "Friends of WebJunction" Group on FB. Just search on WebJunction and it should come up in your results--there are nearly 100 members! You can search on other library-related keywords or names to find other networks and groups to join.

You should be getting a friend request from me, Stephanie.
I look forward to finding out more about you and how you're using FB Are you using it primarily for professional networking? Library advocacy? Friends? All of the above?

facebook is a ton of fun, and has so much to show us about our future (and current) work in libraries. I am in a whole bunch of library centric groups, many of which are VERY active. Happily, doing groups searches on facebook is set up pretty well. That means you can find groups related to your interest easily and start new ones as well.

One active library group I started several months back was the "Libraries and Librarians Group". As of today it has over 1,400 members! It is here:

My facebook profile is here and I'm happy make friends with everybody from Libraryland. ESPECIALLY if you are a WJ user too!

You can be my friend on facebook too!

It's honestly one of my favorite social networking apps because of the ability to get messages to my phone and also because it lets you pipe in content from other sites such as flickr, blogs, twitter, etc.

Thanks for adding me as a friend Zola. Yes, all of the above. I actually finally joined in because of some podcasts I listen to regularly connected to my faith. I have been meaning to do it for professional reasons too, that Library 2.0 thinking you know, and I have been able to reconnect with old high school buds too. It's all fascinating!

Thanks Libraryman! I had already found your group through Michael Stephens Facebook page - actually, found a ton of library groups through his profile. See, he already did all the work for me - the beauty of Facebook. Just asked for you to add me as friend so I can scope out everything you've already done next. Love this stuff. I have been on MySpace for awhile and it just never clicked. Facebook does! I don't know if it's just the cleaner appearance, or the limited feature of only seeing friends info, but I'm definitely getting it now!

Thanks,
Stephanie

Facebook is the first social networking site that I have used daily -- partly because of my Scrabulous addiciton, but for other reasons as listed by Chrystie.

I will seek out the WJ group and join. My user name is Janie Hermann and I am currently wearing purple in my profile photo if anyone wants to friend me -- I am already friends with many library types!

It might be useful to put this here:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,140225-c,webservices/article.html

Here is some text:

Facebook has confirmed findings of a CA security researcher that the social-networking site's Beacon ad service is more intrusive and stealthy than previously acknowledged, an admission that contradicts statements made previously by Facebook executives and representatives.

Facebook's controversial Beacon ad system tracks users' off-Facebook activities even if those users are logged off from the social-networking site and have previously declined having their activities on specific external sites broadcast to their Facebook friends, a company spokesman said via e-mail over the weekend.

Although according to the spokesman Facebook does nothing with the data transmitted back to its servers in these cases and deletes it, the admission will probably fan the flames of the controversy engulfing Beacon, which has been criticized by privacy advocates.

Hey Anne,
I searched for Anne Christensen and there are many to choose from. Could you go to your profile page and paste the link in a post so I can find you? Thanks,
