Blogger Roll Call
10:36 AM EDT 5/17/06
Just thought we could make a thread where WJ members could list their personal and professional blogs. I am always looking for new and interesting blogs to add to my aggregator.

We have had threads on WJ that list library blogs (as in blogs maintained by institutions), but I want blogs where librarians post their thoughts and observations on our profession and life in general.

I have been blogging for a few months now on a collaborative blog made up of NJ librarians called Library Garden:
http://librarygarden.blogspot.com

I am thinking of doing a personal blog as well, but fear that lack of time is keeping me from doing so.

Anyone else care to share?

What a great idea to collect a list of blogs/bloggers.

It may be a fuzzy line between personal and professional blogs. I write for BlogJunction, "WebJunction's niche in the blogosphere." It is definitely in the professional category, but I try to inject some personal views/attitudes into my posts. I think that's what makes blogs more interesting than just a series of news items --how the blogger personally responds to events or situations being described.

Still, I have occasional urges to start a personal blog, which would look very different from BlogJ. I run up against the time factor. Do I have enough to say and enough energy to keep a blog fresh? Not at the moment. emoticon

I know that Max Anderson (WJ Moderator), Marianne Lenox and Stephanie Gerding (WJ Advocates) all have blogs. Who else?

We have two blogs at the Northeast KS Library System
http://blog.nekls.org/ (tech stuff)
http://currency.nekls.org/ (current events and news)

I also write a blog with Jeanne Roy and Rebecca Richardson called Librarians with Class; it's for librarians who do training

We haven't been churning out the posts like I would like, but we will!! emoticon

Thanks for sharing your links Brenda and Eric. I have added your blogs to my aggregator.

Actually, I added Eric's blog after he hosted the Carnival of the InfoScience. Hosting the carnival is a great way to get your blog some exposure. Just contribute to the carnival and then sign up to host!

More info can be found on the Carnival wiki: http://infosciences.pbwiki.com/

You'll find my random musings, many of which involve library issues, at Walt at Random. It's about as personal as my writing gets, and has had the useful side-effect that very few people still call Cites & Insights a blog!

Just thought I would add that I also maintain a blog for MPOW. It promotes a series that I have coordinated for over 5 years now -- The Tuesday Technology Talks:

Thanks everyone else for sharing your links. I am pretty sure we must have more bloggers here at the WJ...

I started a libraryblog ("check it out")on our website www.kvvi.net/~library but have trouble finding the time to write every day. We are a small rural library. I was hoping people would read and comment but so far have had no response. I was even hoping people would also write blurbs for it from time to time. I'll wait and see.

Welcome 'joshuamneff' and 'adkstories'! Yes, self-promotion is highly encouraged here. emoticon

Actually, if you follow librarybob's line of thinking, it's not self-promotion as much as it is outing your professionalism as a library worker. That's a good thing!

I totally sympathize with finding the time to write blog posts. I also find that eliciting comments on a blog is totally unpredictable and hard to achieve. You're off to a great start with the Keene Valley Library blog. Many bloggers have given up quantity for quality. Have you considered getting other staffers to contribute to your blog, along the model of the St. Joseph County (IN) Public Library blog? Having a group take ownership of the blog sure helps with the time crunch.
