podcast permission form
9:43 AM EDT 4/4/07
I am a Library Director who wants to start offering some of our children's and adult programs through a podcast. I realized that I will need to have a permission/release form for speakers/performers to sign in order for me to include their performance in a podcast. Does anyone have an example of such a form? Also, I'm wondering if any podcasting libraries have found speakers/performers hesitant to sign such a form.

A very good question. I do not have a form, but we are thinking of devising one ourselves and would be interested in any hints or wording from others.

We have just finished our first major podcasting project, and I did not use permission forms. It is a Poetry Podcast for National Poetry Month and we will be featuring a different poet each day. I did, however, communicate with each poet who signed up by email detailing how the project would work and they submitted their poems to me electronically before the recording session at the library.

I am really pleased with how our first official podcast project is working out. We have recorded 23 poets so far and have several more to go -- we hope to have a new poet featured daily for April! It was an ambitious undertaking, but lots of fun.

Of course, the real coup was getting Paul Muldoon (a Pulitzer prize winning poet) to be our lead poet!

But really, every single poet did a great job and for many of them it was their first time podcasting and many did not even know what blog was at all -- a great technology lesson built in for the participants.

Oh, and we did this project all for free:
Used free download from audacity.com to record
Files are being hosted at archive.org
Using a free version of Wordpress to host the blog!

Hi Megan,
I love your podcasting idea!

I found this podcast release form http://www.americathegreen.com/podcast-release/
This one from Stanford isn't specifically for podcasts http://ucomm.stanford.edu/release/, but I like the way it discusses copyright.

Hopefully some libraries that have created similar podcasts will reply about whether or not they experienced speaker hesitancy. It seems that once people get past the strangeness of the word "podcast" they would be OK.

Will you share your a link to your podcasts when you have them up?

Thank you!
Brenda

Wow - Janie - this is so cool! Thanks for sharing the link. Thank you also for sharing the info about how you created them (and for free!).
