PACHUG Grant Recipients - TechAtlas Inventory Webinar Schedule

This schedule of webinars is for libraries that are creating/updating an inventory as part of a follow-up from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

These webinars will cover the entire process of creating/updating an inventory in TechAtlas for Libraries. In addition to these live sessions, the following resources will also be made available to help libraries complete their inventory in TechAtlas:

A set of written instructions documenting the inventory process
A recorded archive of one of the live webinars that can be reviewed at any time.

PACHUG Grant Recipients - TechAtlas Inventory Instructions

Complete instructions on completing/updating an inventory in TechAtlas for participants in the PACHUG (Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grant) program from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The instructions attached to this page detail the process of completing/updating an inventory of computers in TechAtlas for Libraries. For the purposes of this request, we are only asking you to provide information about the library's public access computers. This includes any machines there were or were not purchased with grant funds. You do not need to inventory staff machines or provide inventory details for other technology resources. However, you are welcomed to do so if you would like to use TechAtlas for managing your libraries technology.

In addition to these instructions, we are also offering free, online webinars that will cover the entire inventory process. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grants (PACHUG) were awarded to State Libraries and to large invididual library systems between 2005-2008. In partnership with the foundation, WebJunction provided access to the TechAtlas for Libraries software to help libraries with their eligibility determination and grant reporting. The free, online tools in TechAtlas also help libraries with their technology management and technology planning needs.

Final reporting on expenditures for this program will be done in TechAtlas in early 2009. Beginning in April 2009, all libraries receiving grant funds under this program are being encouraged to provide an updated inventory of their public access computers to help the foundaiton collect critical data for analyzing the impact of their grant programs and in assessing the hardware in the field. This update of inventories should be completed by June 30, 2009.

Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grant

Information for libraries participating in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's PACHUG program.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has partnered with WebJunction to administer this one-time grant program. The goal is to assist libraries granted computers between 1997 and 2000 in upgrading their systems with hardware which will be easier to support and upgrade in the future. WebJunction has customized TechAtlas, a suite of online technology planning tools owned by WebJunction, to help implement this program. Libraries participating in the program are required to use TechAtlas to complete a second inventory of public access computers following expenditure of the PACHUG funds disbursed by each state library.

States Receive Grant Funds
State library agencies in all 18 participating states have received their final grant funds from the Gates Foundation. Disbursal to individual libraries will vary from state to state. Contact your state library for more information.

Second PAC Inventory Requirement
All libraries who receive funds to replace existing granted Windows NT PACs that are still in service will need to perform a second PAC hardware inventory once the new computers are purchased and in place. This will document the completion of a primary goal of the program; to replace the remaining Windows NT PACs still in service.

The state libraries will provide technical support and TechAtlas account information to individual libraries participating in the PACHUG program.

Log On to TechAtlas
If your library is required to complete a second inventory of public access computers, you will need to log in to TechAtlas . You must use an email address and password to login. If you do not have that information, you can get your login information from your state library or contact TechAtlas technical support.
