problems with temporary storage
1:02 PM EST 1/20/06
Hi! I recently upgraded to NAV 2006 (from NAV 2003) and began having lots of trouble with one of my public access computers, not a GLC but similar. I have never had problems with it before (nearly three years), so I am wondering if NAV 2006 is not compatible with Centurion Guard. Or maybe I messed something else up in the process of downloading.
Anyway, it would not quit updating automatically, even though I had told it not to. So I downgraded to NAV 2005, but now I am still having problems. It goes like this: the computer will be sitting idle when a popup says: "WARNING: Temporary storage has only 49 Mb of memory remaining. You must save your work to another drive . . ." Then it posts similar warnings with smaller numbers until it goes to zero, then it says "Windows was unable to save the file C:WINNT\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log" and about 20 more similar ones, then it locks up if I don't see it soon enough to turn it off.
It is Windows XP, and it has no viruses or spyware that NAV can find, and Windows automatic updates are turned off. I just can't think what to try now. Any ideas would be appreciated. Debby (nontechnical librarian person)

Debby-

I don't have any great answers for you, but i have a few questions emoticon

This computer has a Centurion Guard - does it have any other public access security system on it?
Were you having the same issue with NAV 2006? Was there a different issue (other than auto-updates continueing?)
How much free room is there on the C: drive (let me know if you don't know how to check this)?
When the temporary storage message happens, are logged in to a public account? Does it make any difference if you leave it logged in to the adminstrative account?

My guess about the temporary storage issue is that you may be running out of hard drive space. Otherwise it could possibly be a restrictions issue, where the program is being blocked from doing something, but the 49mb thing sounds like some kind of real space issue.

I don't think it has any other public access security system - we are a small library and only have two computers on line.
This problem started when I updated to NAV 2006. Of course, then, it kept updating although it was set not to do this automatically, so it would update and then reboot and then update and reboot and continue all day long if I left it on.
No, I don't know how to check for free room on the C: drive, but a library trustee did this for me and said I had plenty of memory. (He takes care of computers at the local bank, but he was stumped by my problem also.)
The problem seems to occur whether anyone has even used the computer at all. And we do not have different profiles on this machine, only the administrator.
Thank you for thinking about my problem and responding! Debby

OK, it also just occurred to me that the other reason you could be running out of space when using the CG is that it sets aside a set amount of hard drive space to use during a given session. I bet that it is set too small for what you have on the computer. Once that space runs out, it is exactly as though you are out of hard drive space.

To fix this, you need to run the CG software and change the settings. Hopefully you have the instructions to do this, if not you should be able to get them from centuriontech.com.

BTW - if it helps, on the Gates Pc's we set the CG space to 3GB.

Thank you so much! I called Centurion Guard and they were very nice. They helped me download a new version of CG (free!) and set the storage space to 22,225 MB and all seems well! Thank you for your ideas. Debby
