Drop profile restrictions to run antivirus
3:01 PM EDT 6/20/04
I'm hoping Chris or Mark will answer this question. Do I have to remove profile restrictions to run Norton's antivirus live update for new definitions AND/OR to scan for viruses? Also how often do you recommend I scan for viruses? Once a month or once a week?

well, Mark is on vacation, so...

No, you do not have to remove restrictions for any of that - though you don't want Norton trying to run an auto-scan when the pc is logged on to a public profile.

As for running scans, if this is a computer with a Centurion Guard or the like, I wouldn't really bother, otherwise I would just treat it the same as your other computers.

I would personally think once a month would be fine.

Thanks, Dale! I unlock Centurion Guard and sign in as exe to do my antivirus updates and scans. I just didn't know if we had to remove profile restrictions first. Appreciate your reply. Bobbie

Dale, you are much appreciated at all times, when Mark is on vacation, and when he is not! emoticon

Just a quick addition: we run updates/scans (more or less)weekly (logged on as exec)just to avoid the annoying window that will pop up saying your virus definitions are out of date - it seems to show up you go longer than 2 weeks. The updates tend to go quicker that way, too.

We are using the Corporate Edition of Norton Antivirus. I have it set so that it looks for definition updates daily at 3:00 a.m. This has been very helpful with the latest worms coming out. I don't have to go around and make sure the latest update has been installed as it does it automatically every day. Bobbie
