This would be a way to promote the library and enhance the learning of English. If you have done this, do you have any scripts or strategies? This is for a library that can not use interpreters or bilingual signs which is too bad. They huddle in a group and resist most attempts to engage them. Most of the other teens are open to communication and programming but it seems like we cannot get through to this group. The girls seem particularly (I don't know if this is the correct word) hostile to open communication, especially to me, a female. The boys are more forthcoming."

"I would like to have a program where they would like to participate. I think perhaps food or particular crafts might entice them but I want to know your opinion. I would also like to have more communication between us. I don't mean to be their best friend but I would like more than silence."

"What strategies and programs can you suggest to make these teens feel welcome in the library? Are there any resources I should look into?"

Your advise is much appreciated.
Juan Tomás Lee - Utah State Library Division
jtlee@utah.gov
