What Hispanic Heritage Month programs and activities happened in your library this year? Please post any stories, resources, questions or suggestions that you would like to share with the library community. They hosted a successful Latino film festival this year. As a MLIS student I am inspired by what libraries around the country are doing. Don't keep all of that hard work to yourself. Let us know!

We have a "Hispanic Heritage Committee" in our community and we invited them to come and participate in our Preschool Storytime programs. We always do some songs/counting rhymes and then a story or two. I found a Spanish version of "Where is Thumbkin" for the song and then we "taught" the kids to count to 10 in Spanish. (I am guessing they don't remember - but the exposure is what counts). Then they read a story or two - (Ada, Alma. I Love Saturdays y Domingos - Czernecki, Stefan. The Hummingbird’s Gift - Mora, Pat. A Birthday Basket for Tia - Stevens, Jan. Carlos and the Squash Plant - Wing, Natasha. Jalapeno Bagels are a few of the stories they have done. Then we do a craft - the last few years we have made paper serapes either out of Bulletain board paper of brown paper bags and that was a big hit...

That is very exciting that your community has its own Hispanic Heritage Committee and that your library is actively partnering with them.

I have to admit that whenever people post on WJ about storytime activities I find myself wishing I could go and have someone read stories to me and then get to make a cool project. I think we need story and craft time for grown ups!
