Great Resources for Spanish materials
7:15 PM EST 3/9/05
Hi all,
Where do you find your Spanish materials, whether they be books, audio, or even computer software?
The one great place I know is http://www.spanishtoys.com/ Don't be put off by the name, they have great educational material, including good selection of Children's software in Spanish.

If people have additional resources for purchasing Spanish Materials, I would love to hear them! I'd like to create a list of vendors (including the great resource for children's materials that Ross posted earlier).
Maria Chavez-Hernandez sent me a link recommending Floricanto Press [http://www.floricantopress.com].
Do other people have recommendations?

One of the places I use is Giron Books. They are located in Chicago. We have had excellent service from them. Vandella and I actually made a visit to their warehouse. The treatment we received was exceptional. You may call and request a catalog. I ordered tons of books and had them shipped to our library. They do business all over the United States. I reccommend to those interested check out http://als.lib.wi.us (Arrowhead Library System) under Online Resources For Serving Hispanic Library Patrons and Librarians. There alot of resourceful items there.

Jewels,
Wow, this site is a goldmine! It has a great list of Publishers for Spanish Language and Bi-lingual books. It also has a ton of other resources that I think our trainers and workshop participants will find useful. I will add it to the resources under the Spanish Language Outreach section on WebJunction. Thanks for posting it!
So far my favorite link on the site is this one: SEFLINS SPANISH LANGUAGE LIBRARY PORTAL - http://MiServiciodeBiblioteca.org The site is a Spanish-language library portal launched by the SE Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN). From there it is just a few clicks to a great section on Assitance with the Spanish Language that contains great info on the Spanish keyboard and helpful language aides:http://miserviciodebiblioteca.org/services/spanishlanguage.cfm
Gracias, Laura

Thanks for the reply Laura! Yeah i thought the PORTAL was very resourceful. Also I was wondering if you know where to obtain library forms in spanish. For example: library card applications, Ill request forms, request to purchase items for library, etc. I'm looking to convert a few forms for our Spanish speaking patrons. That is my first step for outreach. Please reply...
Thanks Julian

I am reposting this message. It was originally posted by Tammy. I was attempting to brach this topic and start a new topic just about resources for forms and things went awry. My apologies! - Laura
Julian, I don't know about the other resources, but we have our local printer print our applications. We created our own in the local dialect. Not the formal one you might see on other applications. I did call Gaylord to see if they had spanish applications, but they do not sell those. I would be interested to see where others purchase their forms. Thus far, my staff translates what we need to post, etc. Jewels thank you for the resource site. I try to use whatever you all suggest. This is really helpful since we are in the rural midwest. Reforma has started a chapeter in the Midwest. Vita, The president of the chapter has been a great resource for me as well. I met her at one of the workshops we presented at. I am sure you all have current access to Reforma, but this is a new area for me...

Julian - Here is a link to the forms page on the Spanish in Our Libraries (SOL) site: http://www.sol-plus.net/plus/services.htm It has a card application form.
Let's see if other people have suggestions or resources for getting a purchase request form or other library forms in Spanish.

2 more sources for books + materials

Howdy,
Though I don't work with the materials much, one of my grantees uses two companies so I thought I'd throw 'em out here:
Bilingual Publications Company 270 Lafayette St., NY, NY 10012; 212-431-3500; (fax) 212-431-3567; lindagoodman@juno.com.
They don't seem to have a website but they're writen up in LJ at http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA378061.html?display=criticas&pubdate=1%2F1%2F04. The Librarian's Yellow Pages (www.lyponline.com) gives this Company Profile: Spanish-language literature by contemporary Latin American authors, U.S. authors in translation, general non-fiction, reference, audio, children's books. Provides up-to-the-minute annotated lists. Customized approval plan. Focus on public libraries. Service beyond compare.
