I am not sure where to post this but I am trying to find the post that someone sent on checking out interlibrary loans using the barcode that is already on the item. Hopefully someone will be able to set me straight. Thanks.

I have been checking out ILL's using the existing barcodes on the item that I get from other libraries and making an "on-the-fly"/temporary record (title-ILL). The on-the-fly/temporary record is set to delete when it is being checked in. I find that it worked for me.
Sorry I sort of remembered seeing something on the discussions and thinking to myself that it is what I have been doing. May have been something else as I searched the discussions and could not find anything. Thanks for looking.

Do you use the Sirsi Dynix program "Horizon" as your catalog software? If so, are you doing a 'fast add'? If not what program are you using for your automated system?

I have been using existing barcodes to check out ILL's for several years. I have not found a barcode that our scanners will not read and our circ system, Verso, Auto-graphics accepts them in a brief record. I create a brief record for the ILL using the lending library's barcode and delete the item when it is returned.
