installing Magic School Bus
3:49 PM EDT 7/6/07
Hi,

I have some Magic School Bus CDs that we've just received from SoupStock. I purchased multiple licenses and hoped to put them on a number of PCs. I attempted to install them on a PC with Windows 2000 (following the installation procedure that pops up) and could not install the whole program to the hard drive in a way that it is usable without inserting the CD.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi PJ -

You can get these to work like this:

- First you need to uninstall any MSB game that you have already tried to install.
- Next, make a folder on you hard drive for one of the games - give it name like "MSB Dinos" or whatever matches that one (best practice is to make this folder on some other drive besides C: - but if that is the only hard drive partition you have that is OK).
- Now insert the MSB CD, but Do NOT install the game. Instead, copy the entire contents of the CD to that folder you just created. This may take a few minutes, when you are done, remove the CD from the computer.
- Finally, browse to that folder and double-click on 'setup.exe' to install the game.

By installing the game from this folder, the computer now knows to look there for files when it runs the game. This procedure works with any game or software that does not have any copy protection built in. Generally games for younger children have no copy protection, but games for teens and older do. The copy protection will generally require that the actual CD be inserted. Even in these cases there are ways around that (Virtual CD or Daemon Tools), but it gets a little more involved.

That's great...thank you! My husband actually suggested that....I should have listened to him! ;)

Why'd you have to go and make my life So much easier. ;-)

Your suggestion beats the mounting virtual CDs and / or installation of a CD server. (Flight, Whales, and Volcanoes didn't like being mounted as virtual CDs anyway.)

Thank you.
