Looking for easy-to-use session timing software
1:31 PM EDT 6/5/07
I have tried Fortres Time Limit Manager, but for whatever reason, even after working with the company, we could not get the software to run without hitches. I've looked at Cafezee, but it is way to complex for what we need.

All we need is something that will permit public access computer users to work for a specified length of time. One the time limit is up, we want all application to stop and display the desktop or a sign-in screen. We don't want to have to log users in between sessions.

Time Limit Manager did all that, but wouldn't work for us. Any suggestions? Shareware, freeware would be fine. Our budget is quite limited for this.

It depends on what else you are using on your PACs, but two possible options are either the <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx" target ="blank">MS Shared Computer Toolkit</a> (the soon to be released new version will be called SteadyState) or the <a href="http://mail.portsmouth.lib.oh.us/PITT/" target="blank">PITT timer</a>.

The Toolkit is a whole PAC security solution, but does contain a simple timer that gives a warning and then logs the user out after the set period. If you are using the Welcome screen login style, the next user would just have to click on the public account name to get in.

The PITT timer was originally written for the Gates Windows 2000 computer, but does also work on XP. It does pretty much the same thing, but is a timer only, without all the extra PAC security.
