Listen in on the presentation with special guest, Salvador Avila. This PowerPoint presentation provides information on successful approaches to translating and transcreating library materials for Spanish speakers. Also provided are interesting statistics on Hispanic populations in the US and information on approaches to translating and transcreating library materials for Spanish speakers. He points out that “[T]he prevalent tendency is to translate or adapt a given text from English into Spanish, as opposed to creating a separate text in Spanish”. However, “sometimes it is better to use a less grammatically correct, more colloquial version of Spanish in lieu of a literally correct translation that does not communicate the intended meaning”.
