Traveling to Minneapolis for PLA 2008? Please take advantage of several opportunities to connect with the SLO Program and WebJunction at PLA. Diversity Fair Scholarship
WebJunction is awarding a scholarship for a past workshop participant and a state trainer from our Spanish Language Outreach Program to attend the Diversity Fair at the American Library Association Annual Conference in June. Scholarship applicants will be selected based on the impact of the outreach activities they have implemented to Spanish speakers following their participation in the SLO program. The winners will receive a scholarship to design and present a poster describing their outreach project at the ALA Annual Conference Office for Literacy and Outreach Diversity Fair Poster Session in Anaheim, CA. The deadline to submit applications is April 11, 2008. The winners will have their project featured as a case study on WebJunction.

Former workshop participants and trainers are invited to apply for the scholarship.This is a great opportunity to showcase your library's accomplishments in Spanish outreach as well as help inspire other librarians interested in creating and sustaining Spanish outreach services at libraries across the country. Featured Resource: Bienvenidos a la Biblioteca!: A Spanish Pointing Guide
Check out this 60-page English-Spanish Pointing Guide (http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=19573) for public service staff and their customers created by the Beaufort County Library. The guide presents many typical front-line situations in an easy-to-use tabular format. Both English-speaking staff and customers who speak Spanish can use the guide to conduct an unspoken dialog by pointing to the questions and responses that appear side-by-side in English and Spanish.

Join us for the next free, one-hour webinar: March 11th, 10:00-11:00 AM PST/ 1:00-2:00 PM EST. Listen to Cathy Jacobus and Sol Gomez from Pima County Library share tips and best practices for conducting a reference interview for health information with Spanish speakers.
