 Spanish Language Outreach Update
January 2008

New Wiki for Collection Development of Spanish Materials
The new wiki (http://spanishcollections.pbwiki.com/?l=S) created by Anna Paola Ferate-Soto of the Colorado State Library is a supplement for a workshop she conducted on reaching out to Spanish speakers in the library. It includes collection development tips for youth and adults, sample collection development policies, links to external resources for serving Latinos, and more. WebJunction also provides other Collection Development resources (http://webjunction.org/do/Navigation?category=15953) you can use to develop your own library's collection.

Materials for Spanish-language Readers in Correctional Facilities
Former Spanish Language Outreach trainer Merribeth Advocate has contributed two wonderful resources for correctional facility libraries building collections in Spanish. Her Suggested Reading Materials for New Adult Readers for Correctional Facility Libraries (http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=18959) is a list of books and other materials appropriate for new adult readers of Spanish. Her Suggested Spanish Reference Collection for Correctional Facility Libraries (http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=18961) has suggested reference and legal materials for Spanish-language readers.

January Webinar: USCIS Civics and Citizenship Toolkit for Public Libraries
Containing a range of useful materials, the Civics and Citizenship Toolkit (http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=18544) is the perfect resource to help your library begin or enhance a collection for immigrants. The free collection comprises immigration and civics publications, handbooks, guidance on product usage, and multimedia tools. Listen to a presentation, meet, and ask questions of the project coordinator, Carlos Muñoz-Acevedo.  Librarians Mary Jane Vanilla from King County Library System (WA) and Homa Nasicy Hartford Library System (CT) will join him to present the public librarian's perspective.
