Publicizing Workshops
4:08 PM EDT 10/10/07
Hola everyone,

I am still basking in the afterglow of our training, trying to hold on to it while juggling 16 other things...I so appreciated meeting everyone and being part of such a committed group.

I am thinking about publicizing our workshops and I'm wondering if anyone has any snazzy ideas for flyers to send to librarians? I think this program is going to be a tiny bit of a hard sell here since the population is still small. If anyone has any terrific graphics, formats, catchy phrases, etc., I'd love to learn from you! I've found the program description in the Workshop Materials section, just wondering about a
Colorful, Not-too-many-words, Appealing approach!

Thanks--
Leah

Hi everyone,

We've been busy in PA getting ready for our workshops. Boy, this is a lot of work and I'm not even the coordinator! But it sure is a lot of fun. I thought I'd share with you what we've done in PA so far to get the word out.

Claudia Koenig, our coordinator, customized an example flier she saw at the training institute. I attached that as a PDF. I volunteered to create the web page that the flier refers people to which you can see at http://www.lancasterlibraries.org/spanishoutreach. I've been getting into Google Maps lately, so I added an interactive map link on that page or you can see that directly at: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=100250911501586843614.00043c510ffa0c3bbd0d4&z=8&om=1
I always find it frustrating to find the nearest workshop for things and this map should help people to do so.

Is there any place on WebJunction where we can promote our workshop, like if they go to webjunction.org/spanish as the flier states on the backside, is there a place they would see with info in Pennsylvania? If so, it would be great for our info to be added there.

What are the rest of you doing to get the word out?

Stephanie, you rock! That's a great idea to have workshop schedules on WJ, so we are working with coordinators to get that up and running. We hope to have it available very, very soon.

Thanks,
Emily

Hi Everyone,
It seems like I've been running since I got back from Seattle. I finally got our promotional flier printed up and mailed out this week to about 5000 librarians. Let's hope they come. I'm attaching a PDF of the flier. It is a tri-fold much like Arizona's. I'm very pleased with it and we are receiving lots of complements on it.

Thanks,
Myra (TX)

Myra,

Nice work - who's your local artist? What an ambitious schedule you have. Keep us posted on how it goes!
