| Emerging Leaders Assess Small and Rural Libraries In January 2009, a team of library professionals participating in ALA's Emerging Leaders program were asked by ALA and PLA to survey small and rural public library directors, managers, and administrators. Their goal is to assess the skills and techniques used by small and rural libraries to build community relations, and to determine which activities and resources are used to build upon or approve those relations. Team members Christine Ayar (Kansas), Sarah Lawton (Colorado), Sarah Townsend (Virginia) and Hagar Shirman (Massachusetts) will present their findings at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, and will assist in the aggregation of current resources for small and rural librarians, as well as develop new resources. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and will remain anonymous, unless you select otherwise. Please give them your input by June 1. Go to the survey »
Plan Now for ARSL's Annual Conference As you are planning your schedule for the year, this is a reminder that the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) invites you to attend our next "best small conference" for staff, trustees, and friends in rural and small libraries. It will be held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on September 11–13. Our theme this year will be Keeping Your Head While Serving the Community. Detailed program and registration information will be available soon, but you can still make plans to join us for this practical and rejuvenating event. Check out 2008 conference handouts for an insider's look at last year's conference.
