The July 2006 Rural Update announces the new In Focus Webinar series and highlights the ALA Rural Forum.

Rural Library Sustainability Update -
July 2006

WebJunction's Rural Library Sustainability Project is in full swing! The Round 1 and 2 states have presented 50 workshops to over 1200 staff throughout the country! Coordinators and trainers from the Round 3 states are preparing for their Institutes later this fall. It's very exciting to see so many people sharing resources and building a community of interest for small and rural libraries on WebJunction. Thank you for your participation!

New In Focus Webinar Series

We are pleased to announce the new monthly In Focus webinars for rural library staff. Each month the Rural Library Sustainability Project presents a webinar focusing on a particular topic of importance to the work of sustaining Rural and Small libraries. Open to everyone, these webinars are designed to build on the work coming out of our Rural Library Sustainability workshops. While the workshops allow folks to look at several broad categories contained within our Rural Library Sustainability Continuum, these webinars focus in on some of the finer details and specific resources available in one particular area of the Continuum. For example, our May In Focus featured a discussion on Staff Training and Learning and in June we featured Building Community Partnerships. Information on joining the webinars, upcoming topics, and all archived sessions are available here, In Focus. Join us next on July 19th when we'll be talking about ways to demonstrate your library's impact!

Rural Forum at ALA a Great Success!

Many of you may be aware that each state participating in the Rural Library Sustainability Project will be provided with the funds to send three workshop participants to the annual ALA conference. Thirty six participants and coordinators from Round 1 joined up for a morning of great sharing of stories and resources at this year's Rural Forum. In addition to Cassandra's great tips on making the most of a conference experience, participants shared inspiring stories and Stephanie Gerding, our Arizona coordinator, shared her expertise in her session, Fundraising, Grants and all that Jazz. You can access all of the resources shared, including a podcast(!) of Stephanie's presentation in the Rural Forum section on WebJunction.
