Patron Reviews
9:32 AM EDT 5/11/07
I've been exploring ways to allow patrons to comment on the books they are reading. I would like this to somehow link with the bibliographic record from our circ system. This is not a feature our vendor, Auto-Graphics, provides. One suggestion is to include an 856 url to a blog. Another would be to just post a review to a blog. I like the idea of going from the catalog to a review as a patron looking at the title could then link and see what others thought of the book. With a strictly blog posting they would need to be at the blog to see the review. Another thought was to do some type of star system with 1 to 5 stars rating the book.
I have always thought we should be able to do things as well as amazon. I frequently look at amazon to see what people are saying about a book. I know we can submit our reviews to worldcat but my patrons are not using this site. They use amazon. I would like them to have a review see a review from a community member and a local experience.
Is anyone providing this type of service and if so, how?

as a reply to Chris Jowaisas.
Ask and you shall receive! This is exactly what I'm talking about. I also had come across Ann Arbor's reviews and called them this week. They gave me the name of someone to contact (have the name at work and I'm home now) who was on vacation. I will contact this person next week and will share what I learn. Ann Arbor does use iii as their opac vendor.
Koha is very interesting. I will have to research this further. I am really more interested in patron review from local patrons using our opac than content from Amazon. As I mentioned in my earlier post, we should be able to do it as well, if not better. Still, reinventing the wheel often wastes time and money so....
Is anyone else using Koha?
My sincere thanks for your reply. More ideas to think about!
