Resources you cannot live without

Are there any resources, books, websites, etc. that you could not live without in your day to day dealings with RA? Many of you may be familiar with Kent Distric"s What's Next - Books in a Series. I don't think there's a day that goes by that I don't use this site at least once. Located at:

http://www.kdl.org/libcat/whatsnext.asp

Have a patron who remembers part of the plot, cover, partial title, some vague idea of a book they are trying to locate? Do you need a list of books for a display? How about a title for that display? Then you need the librarians of Fiction-L. Hosted at the Morton Grove Public Library, this list was started by and for librarians to answer those burning questions about fiction reading. Located at:

The Skokie Public Library has a nice set of If You Like resources:

jenpeter had posted this resource to another topic. I think it's a great resource to include here.

Hennepin County’s If you liked-NF

Here's another RA web site that is great! Keeping track of children's series can be challenging too! KDL's What's Next does series for children, but I like the organization and methods of searching much better in MCPL.

Mid-Continent Public Library[MCPL] - Juvenile Series and Sequels
http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/readers/series/juv/

It offers the choices of Author, Title, Series Title or Series Subject for searching.

You bet! The Mid-Continent site is excellent for children's series searches and the one I check first when looking for children's titles. Another good children's series site is Monroe County Library-Indiana:

http://www.monroe.lib.in.us/childrens/serieslist.html

This one is searched by author's last name. Between the two sites, children's series questions should be easy to answer!

Marlys, thanks for sharing the Mid-Continent PL resource!

I like that it has so many access points. I was just introduced to the inimitable "Mole Sisters" series of children's books, but couldn't remember the author. The database was easy to navigate to find a complete list of series titles.

Now, what I'd really like to see is the next step --reviews of the books, Amazon-style, with industry summaries and reader/patron reviews. Does anyone know of such a site?

This also brings up the potential need for a forum exclusively for children's and YA Reader's Advisory. Does anyone want to volunteer to start and host such an enterprise?

Folks may wish to note the "Recommending books" section on the Library Success wiki.

Childree,
You are amazing! I don't know where you find these sites. The wiki has some good links and material. I had never heard of ricklibrarian before and really liked his blog. And to think our own RA forum is listed here! One of the things I love about this forum is that I have no need to bookmark a site. I can find it quickly just by searching the posts. Thanks for sharing.
