Reader's Advisory and Selection using newsfeeds.

It allows me to quickly skim a number of newsfeeds, share items with a group blog at librarylandroundup.blogspot.com and starred items to my personal blog. On facebook, I can also post a mini-feed to share with my libraryland, family, and other friends there. I use the newsfeeds in conjunction with traditional resources and bestseller lists on other sites. If I see a book repeatedly mentioned, I know it's something I must be aware of. I also seem to compulsively add items to my Goodreads account which is also shared on my blog and facebook account. If this 20 year veteran of libraryland can do this, anybody can. Next post: the really important stuff.

Top Now before you panic, you should know I subscribe to a lot more feeds than this. About 88 at last count. I try like crazy to edit but it just isn't working for me. If I read every day, it takes about 1/2 hour for me to skim and share items to the blogs mentioned above. Here are the absolute best ones. YMMV! Top Finally got a chance to check out the many excellent feeds your provided. I also set up a new google reader account so I can easily read some of the feeds I chose from your list. I have a bloglines accound and a blogge account but never seem to use them. As I frequently use google for quick searching, it's easy to remember and the reader is very easy to use. Thanks for providing these rss feeds. Hoping others join in with some of their favorites.

Top I'm truly loving rss feeds and probably wouldn't haven't subscribed if it wasn't for this topic. I easily signed up for an account with google reader and have been enjoying the small list I set up (trying to keep it manageable). Some of the feeds were suggested in the original posting to this topic. Two others I added are [url http://shelftalk@spl.org/ ]Shelf Talk[/url] - this is a blog set up by Seattle Public Library. Nice articles, thoughtful topics, lots of book news; a pleasure to read. [url http://readingthepast.blogspot.com// ]Reading The Past[/url] - a nice way for me to keep of with historical fiction. I'm looking for a really good feed for sci-fi as this is an area where I could use help, not only in RA but collection development.

Top I'm hoping someone will approach this from the patron angle, where rss feeds are used to alert patrons of materials, be it books, dvds, favorite authors, etc. For instance, I'd like to let a patron know there is a new book by Lee Child. The patron could sign up for an alert via rss feed. If so, how do you set this up?
