Re: More Book Displays

It's April, the month of showers, so I thought it would be appropriate to do this display:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/23571981@N00/446761167/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/250/446761167_e9c2250cef.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="raining cats & dogs" /></a>

A few stuffed animals, an umbrella, slicker and lots of good dog and cat books make this a fast, easy, colorful display!

Love it! Great Display!

We wanted to do a "cat/dog raining theme, too, BUT maroon, black, and gray umbrellas don't shout out spring. We decided to go nautical. Ahoy!

Picture errors

Here's a note posted by blg3 in the help section. This was in response to my urgent plea as to where all my pictures had gone. Hope this helps. If not, send me a note or the long address of the flickr photo and I'll try to insert it.

Our behind-the-scenes support guru figured out that (for unexplained reasons --sunspots again?!), it is now necessary to add a space after the equal sign before the first quotation mark in an html anchor tag.

The problem with demonstrating the fix here is that anchor tags automatically turn into links (whether broken or not), so you can't see the syntax. You'll have to mentally insert the symbols to replace the klunky text within parentheses:

--the anchor tag starts with (angle bracket)a href=
--add a space after the equal sign
--then continue with the anchor tag syntax: "http://etcetera

If you're linking to pics on Flickr, there are two places to add the extra space: the example above and after the equal sign in (angle bracket)img src= "http://etcetera.

This one's hopping good! Bright, cheerful and easy. I do love the way you arrange things. How far are you from Connecticut? Seriously, I'm really glad to see your posts. I'm certain they will inspire others as well as myself.

We focused on Billy Collins; although, Walt Whitman's face is on the poster. emoticon Enjoy!

As always, very striking! I have done displays at the beginning of a school year...books about teachers, school, etc. but have never done one for graduation. It's such an exciting time. Inspirational books likes yours would work. Can anyone else think of others to include in the display? Perhaps resume for those not going on to college but what about fiction?

This display was created really cheap with an old typewriter and newspapers. It highlights our new reporting books!

As usual you've blown me away. Great display and usage of the patron's lures. I like the thought of fishing lures and books that lure! You are a natural display maker!

I'm in need of some inspiration at the moment. Need a catchy display. Will have to look at the posts and see what I can borrow!
More Book Displays
12:14 PM EDT 8/23/07 as a reply to maggie moran.
This was a book display I did for "Take This Job and Read It." I wanted to combine books that help you get a job with books about people's experiences on their jobs. I had hoped that readers would take equally from the resume-type books and they "working tales" type books, which they did. You can find the bibliography of the "working books" on Fiction_L from 2007.

I love the "Take this Job" and I might just have to do it, too! emoticon

We call this our "Katrina August 29, 2005" display. Here is a list of books: Breach of Faith by Jed Horne, City Adrift by Jenni Bergal, Disaster by Christopher Cooper, Face to Face with Katrina Survivors by Lemuel A Moye, Feet on the Street
by Roy Blout, Jr., The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley, Hurricane Katrina by Reginald DesRoches, In Katrina’s Wake
by Bill McKibben, Katrina: Mississippi Women Remember
by Sally Pfister, Katrinaville Chronicles by David G. Speilman, New Orleans Mon Amour by Andrei Codrescu, Path of Destruction by John McQuaid, and The Strom by Ivor Van Heerden.

It was super easy to make. Unrolled cottonballs and attach them to the fabric without glue or pins. Hairspray afterwards, just in case it decides to sag over night. I only used half a bag or about 50 balls. The cost is one bag of cottonballs! ;) Hope this helps...

What a neat display and so reasonable to do! Who would have thought cottonballs would just stick. It's amazing to see what can be done with inexpensive materials and a little imagination. Way to go!

And here's our latest display...

Title: Taking Liberties The Novel Lives of Famous People

Lots of fiction with characters that are real, both living and dead. There's lots to choose from and I'm presently compiling a list with the help of the members of fiction_l. The list will be posted in the near future at Fiction_l Booklists but I'm certain you could come up with many titles of your own.

Hadn't a clue what I could find for props so just made a sign and hung it. I'll be interested to see how well this the titles circulate. I'm planning on keeping better track of circ stats for displays this year.

Do you think a title list with or without annotation is a must for displays?<p>

9/11 Display and Campus Map

This September 11 display was easy and we hope thought provoking...

<a href= "http://www.flickr.com/photos/maggiereads/1360046749/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src= "http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1102/1360046749_c9335ec43a_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="map of campus display" /></a>

Our kids have a hard time navigating the campus map. So, we enlarged it and added polaroids of the buildings to help. Hope this idea helps others!
