Library Card Design Ideas?
1:50 PM EDT 7/19/06
Hi All,
We are currently in the design phase of a new library card for our patrons. We were hoping to have a more streamlined look on the card, preferably with only essential information. Currently, we are debating whether the physical address of the library needs to be printed on the card. The name, phone number and web address (as well as a few policy rules on the back) will most certainly be included, but one rational against the physical address is that all of our patrons already know where the library is (afterall, they came in to get the card!), and therefore we should consider eliminating this from the new card, to achieve that streamlined appearance.
Any ideas or situations in which we would NEED the address on the card?
TIA! Christina Jennerich Assistant Director Marlboro Free Library

Hi Christina and welcome!
I just took out my library card to see what the Seattle Public Library chose to include on their cards. The face of it is very un-cluttered.
See if you can picture this: --The card has a horizontal format. --The logo occupies the left half of the card. --There is a vertical black band bisecting the card; it has white lettering that says "library card" --in case there is any doubt. --The right half (actually about 40%) lists three divisions with phone numbers and the website url: Borrower's Services 24-hour TeleCirc Quick Information Web Site
Does anyone else have a sample to share?

Hello
I recently redesigned our library's card using a water color drawing of the building. On the front we only listed the name of the library, the town, state, zip, and website address. On the back is the barcode, phone number and a blurb about being responsible for this and that. Prior to this we had a similar type of card, also sans street address.
I don't remember ever having a comment and/or complaint from a patron about the lack of street address.
I'm sure you know that the vendors are happy to send samples of cards they've done for other libraries.
Hope this helps!
