Outsourcing Computer Training?
3:03 PM EDT 6/20/04
A friend of mine posed this question to several us via email and I thought I would post it here to try and garner some responses for him:
Do any of your libraries "outsource" computer training? i.e. Instead of library staff doing the computer training an outside organization or person is contracted (paid) to do it or hired to add to the library program.
Any thoughts on outsourcing? Would you never do it? Maybe consider it?
Let's discuss!

as a reply to Janie Hermann.
Well, it turns out that we are kind of "outsourcing" some of our training on a trial basis this Fall. The local adult school that does continuing ed. classes in the evening needed a new place to offer their computer classes and inquired about using our new lab to do this. Since they teach mostly at night and we teach during the day, we felt this would be a good way to try this out.
The Adult School is offering "advanced" courses and we will stick to what we have always offered. They will be teaching Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Advanced Access, Advanced Web Design, etc... courses that we do not have the time staff time to develop or teach. This is going to be a win-win situation all around:
1. The library will get some revenue from renting our lab 2. The adult school can continue to offer their most popular computer classes (the lab they were using was shut down) 3. Library patrons can get some advanced training that we can't normally offer!
You gotta love a win-win-win!!!
