Interactive Lesson Ideas

  • Ask each student to write a question on an index card, then give the question to their neighbor, who searches for a relevant Web site.

  • Create sample Web searches, and distribute a search to each student.

  • List Web sites to investigate with a list of items to look for, and ask students to investigate a specific site and share their findings with the class.

  • Provide 3-4 review questions in a game show format and ask the class for answers.

  • Provide “incomplete handouts” and ask students to fill in the answers or complete the handout using their own ideas.

  • Have students create their own handout containing the things they want to remember about the class.

  • Pair-up students and ask one to read instructions while their partner completes the steps on the computer.

  • After explaining the structure of Web addresses, lead the class through a guessing game by giving a company, organization, or university and ask the students to guess the Web address.

  • After listing evaluation criteria, break the class into groups and assign each group a Web page to evaluate using the criteria. Select Web sites based of their “questionable” motives or content.

  • Putting the Steps Together - This activity can be used to reinforce a multi-step procedure you have taught. Example procedures: cutting and pasting text or images; saving Internet favorites. Note: This activity works best with a procedure that includes three or more steps. Have participants arrange themselves in a line. Distribute a set of index cards with individual steps listed on them, giving each participant a card. Tell the participants they need to rearrange themselves so that they are standing in line according to the order of steps required. Once they think they've got themselves arranged accordingly, ask them to read their steps in order, first to last.
