For some of us, a passion for libraries began at our local public library; for others, it developed in our school library. Regardless of the youth's preference in your community, communication between these two entities contributes to a higher quality of coordinated services. To read about the importance of public and school library partnerships, check out Community Connectivity, an article that describes the fruits of such collaborations with real-life examples. The American Association of School Librarians, a division of ALA, explores the importance of school and public library partnerships in this article. The Staying Connected Toolkit is a resource primarily intended for establishing a public access computing program, yet contains lessons that apply to all aspects of librarianship. Of particular interest for those wanting to partner with their public or school library counterpart: Chapter 10, Develop Effective Partnerships. This chapter contains helpful information about successfully forming and sustaining community partnerships.
