Courses for PA Librarians

In addition to the WebJunction courses and webinars made available to Pennsylvania libraries, the following self-paced training courses are also offered to Pennsylvania Librarians and library aides in support of their participation in the Access PA Database, POWER Library and Ask Here PA projects.

To begin the registration process, click on one of the course links below, which will take you to the WebJunction Pennsylvania homepage.  Along the right-hand side of the PA WebJunction page, click the Request Course Access link.  Complete the Request WebJunction Course Access form, indicating Pennsylvania as your State Partner.  Course access requests may take 24 hours to process.

Once your WebJunction Course Access has been approved via email, follow the directions to enroll in any of the online courses from the WebJunction Course list, selecting Pennsylvania Courses, then Library Services to take one of the approved Act 48 credit courses listed below.  If you experience any problems registering for a course, please email support@webjunction.org


Access PA Online Beginner Training Course

The Access PA Online Beginner Training Course is designed for librarians and library aides new to Access PA and covers four basic areas; 1) how to navigate the Access PA website to locate information related to the Access PA program; 2) searching the Access PA Database and placing interlibrary loan (ILL) requests; 3) using the VDX ILL System to process ILL requests; and 4) how to keep your library's holdings updated in the Access PA Database. Students are able to access the course from any computer connected to the Internet to work independently any time of day or night. The instructor, Cindy Pitchon, will be available to all students via an email link in the course. All certified Pennsylvania school librarians and teachers are eligible to receive 7 Act 48 credit hours upon completion of the course. There is no charge for this course.

POWER Library: AP Images Online Training Course

The POWER Library: AP Images Online Training course is designed for librarians and library aides that need to become familiar with AP images and includes an introduction to the AP Images online interface, navigation and set-up options and searching each of the archives. For more than a century, AP photographers have captured the greatest moments in history, news, sports and entertainment. AP images is a research tool that allows users to enhance their research and increase their knowledge by accessing the photographs, graphics, audio and full-text news stories that were created by AP staff.

Understanding and Promoting Ask Here PA Online Training Course

The Understanding and Promoting Ask Here PA online course is designed for librarians and teachers in all schools and educational institutions in PA. School librarians are asked to share this opportunity with their classroom teachers.  The course focuses on understanding how Ask Here PA works and on using, evaluating and promoting this valuable service.  Students are able to access the course from any computer connected to the Internet to work independently any time of day or night. The instructor, Vince Mariner, will be available to all students via an email link in the course. All certified Pennsylvania school librarians and teachers are eligible to receive 3 Act 48 credit hours upon completion of the course.  There is no charge for this course.

VDX ILL System Version 4.1.3 Online Training Course

The VDX ILL System Version 4.1.3 Online Training Course is designed for librarians and library aides that are already familiar with the VDX ILL system and covers the new features available in this upgraded version, including new Work Queue labels, placement of important notes, and new actions. Students are able to access the course from any computer connected to the Internet to work independently any time of day or night. The instructor, Cindy Pitchon, will be available to all students via an email link in the course. All certified Pennsylvania school librarians and teachers are eligible to receive 4 Act 48 credit hours upon completion of the course. There is no charge for this course.
