Choose to Read Ohio (CTRO) spotlights Ohio authors and promotes reading across Ohio. The State Library of Ohio, Ohioana Library Association and Ohio Center for the Book encourage Ohioans of all ages to read and enjoy books together.

Every two years, CTRO develops a booklist featuring representative titles for all ages. The CTRO booklist for 2013 and 2014 features books by Ohio authors and illustrators including Jan Wahl, Tim Bowers, Arnold Adoff, Cinda Williams Chima, Paula McLain, and Ted Gup.

The CTRO booklist for 2011 and 2012 includes 20 books to discover by Will Hillenbrand, Denise Fleming, Virginia Hamilton, Angela Johnson, J. Patrick Lewis, and Jennifer Chiaverini. The CTRO booklist for 2009 and 2010 includes 15 notable books by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Jaime Adoff, Toni Morrison, and others.

Free, downloadable, resource-packed toolkits are available for all books.  Toolkits include author biographies and photos, discussion questions and activity ideas, websites to explore, and other resources to enhance the reading experience.

CTRO can be used in classrooms, libraries, bookstores, by book discussion groups, families, and community groups.  Participation may be as simple as a book group selecting a title to discuss, or as elaborate as a multi-agency regional partnership with educational programming and special events. Promotional items and toolkits are free and available to anyone participating in CTRO.  No registration is required.
