Show Me the World
Show Me The World is a program to promote resource-sharing for public libraries in Missouri. Through contracts and grants, the State Library provides the following services to tax-supported public libraries:
• WorldCat via FirstSearch or WorldCat.Org
• Interlibrary Loan
• Get Connected Courier Service
• Missouri Evergreen Resource-Sharing Consortium
The State Library uses LSTA funds to pay for 100% of the licenses for all public libraries in Missouri to use the FirstSearch software and WorldCat, and also pays 85% of the cost for all public libraries in Missouri to use the OCLC Interlibrary Loan service. Libraries using the ILL service pay a small fee for “access charges” directly to OCLC.
Using LSTA grant funds, the Mid-America Library Alliance/KCMLIN is continuing to promote resource-sharing among Missouri public libraries by offering its courier service for interlibrary loan. If you are a public library currently participating in Show Me The World, you have the opportunity to improve library services through carrying out one or more of the following activities:
Setting your holdings in WorldCat if you have never done so;
Reloading your holdings in WorldCat if you have lapsed in uploading adds or deletes;
Promoting and providing interlibrary loan services if these were not previously available;
Expanding existing interlibrary loan services – getting more materials to more patrons;
Beginning in fiscal year 2013, the State Library is contracting with MOBIUS, a nonprofit library organization, to host and manage an Evergreen Integrated Library System for the public libraries of Missouri. The Missouri State Library will fund migration costs and MOBIUS staffing for the Missouri Evergreen Consortium for the next five years. MOBIUS will assist each library with all aspects of implementation and migration to the Evergreen system and provide ongoing support.
