School Libraries

"The principal assets of a strong school library program are those who staff it--including both librarians and other staff."

Preparing Students for Life-Long Learning

The knowledge and skills students need to become effective users of information has changed dramatically. By working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents, Illinois Library Media Specialists are teaching students the necessary skills to critically evaluate and use the information presented to them - ensuring their success as life-long learners.

Studies have found that access to strong school library media programs directly impacts student learning by increased test scores. To help ease the burden of budget cuts, library media specialists  can apply for grants like the Illinois State Library's School District Library Grant.
