These collections range in size from less than 5,000 volumes to the more than 10,015,321 volumes that make up the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign collection.

The collection is just one facet of the academic library. On any given day, the academic librarian works to uphold the missions of their institutions by educating students, faculty and staff alike. They are responsible for teaching information literacy, assisting in scholarly research, and providing study spaces for individual and group learners.
