LSTA in Connecticut
The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds are provided through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, an independent Federal grant-making agency dedicated to creating and sustaining a nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their communities. The use of LSTA funds in Connecticut are administered according to the Five Year Plan (2008-2012) submitted to IMLS in June of 2007.

Amount of Funds Available
The amount of LSTA funds available for grants depends on each year's LSTA budget. The amount granted in the 2010-2011 grant cycle was $78,311; the amount granted in the 2011-2012 cycle was $117,651. 2012-2013 should see roughly $200,000 available for subgrants.
The minimum grant award is $3,000, the maximum is $35,000. The deadline is March 9, 2012.
What are the categories for which grants are accepted?
Each year the Advisory Council on Library Planning and Development determines grant categories based on goals in the LSTA Five Year Plan, 2008-2012. Starting in Fiscal Year 2009, grants have been made available in the following categories.
Program Grant categories:
- Collaborations to Support Literacy for Children and Young Adults
- Programs for Children and Young Adults in Poverty
- Programs for Multi-language Populations
- Programs for Older Adults
- Services to People with Disabilities
- Programs for Young Adults
In order to apply for an LSTA grant, a library must attend one session of a procedural workshop. The Division strongly recommends that the attendee be the same person who is writing the grant.
Grant applications for the 2012-2013 are in the 'documents' tab, above, or here.
The schedule of grant workshops is continuously evolving.
