Baker's Dozen 2nd Batch
Join this group to participate in Baker's Dozen, The 2nd Batch.

About the Program
Baker's Dozen: Learning 2.0 Arizona - The 2nd Batch is a statewide learning program brought to you by the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records and Pima County Public Library.
This program is designed to encourage library staff in Arizona to experiment and learn about the new and emerging technologies and how information is used and created on the Internet today.
Baker’s Dozen, The 2nd Batch is designed to be fun, interactive and to stimulate learning. We hope you will share your ideas on how these Web 2.0 tools can be used in your libraries and media centers.
This is a fully online self-discovery learning program. We have used many Web 2.0 tools to design this program, which we learned as we went. You can learn them, too.
The program will encourage you to take control of your own learning and to utilize your lifelong learning skills through exploration and play.
Dates for the Program
This program will launch on Monday, December 7, 2009 and will continue through Friday, March 26, 2010.
The Goals of this Program are to:
- Encourage exploration of Web 2.0 and new technologies by library staff in Arizona.
- Provide staff with new tools (that are freely available on the Internet) to better support the role of libraries as places of discovery in our communities.
Follow these simple instructions!
You will be using free online tools to complete the program. The primary means of participation will be WebJunction Arizona.
The 13 Things
The AZ Roundup page of WebJunction Arizona will be the home for The13 Things. Within each Thing, you’ll find an explanation of what the Thing is, how people use it, and how libraries might use it.
Go to The 13 Things.
Discovery Exercises
You’ll have a discovery exercise to complete that is related to the each of the 13 Things.
These discovery exercises give you the background you need to understand the tools you're learning about. Don't skip the discovery exercise in each Thing! They give you hands-on experience with these technologies.
You cannot learn about these technologies in the abstract. You must try them for yourself.
When you have done the items in each list, you’ll record your completion on the wiki. Follow the instructions on each Thing for how to record your completion.
Most lessons will require that you to create a free account on a specific website; we recommend that you use the same (or, at least similar) username and password for each. We won’t be able to look them up for you!
More information for the curious
In each Thing, there will be more information for the curious. You don’t have to read it all, but if you’re curious (and you know you are), we’ve given you a way to find out more.
How to get the most out of this learning program
1. Give yourself and others permission to PLAY
2. Make time for DISCOVERY
3. Have FUN!

Giving Credit Where Credit is Due
Baker's Dozen: Learning 2.0 Arizona - The 2nd Batch is based on the Learning 2.0 program designed by Helene Blowers, Technology Director, Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County that was loosely based upon Stephen Abram's article 43 Things I (or You) Might Want To Do This Year (Information Outlook - February 2006) and the Web site 43 Things. We also used ideas from 23 Things on a Stick, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, and other Library Learning 2.0 programs.
We’d like to thank Mala Muralidharan, Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records for providing assistance in shaping this program for hosting on WebJunction Arizona and for also transferring and hosting the first Baker's Dozen on WebJunction Arizona as well.

If you're like a lot of people, you probably keep a to-do list. The trouble with lists like this is that they're static?it's hard to change things around without scribbling all over your list or writing new lists all the time. Your list also can't remind you if you forget something, and if you lose it, it's gone forever. Productivity tools eliminate these problems and help focus your workflow.

Mash it up! As the word suggests, mashups mash a couple things together to make something new and exiting. Kind of like mixing up mashed potatoes with other holiday leftovers, mashups combine two yummy things to make an even yummier creation.
